Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber, Montana is not your typical rural Montana, 25-bed CAH (Critical Access Hospital), and Big Timber is not your typical rural Montana town. A difference you might notice is our location and the vibrancy of our town, our neighbors, and our area. We are, essentially, the county hospital for Sweet Grass County, Montana. We are in a beautiful open valley along the Yellowstone River, between three mountain ranges, just north of Yellowstone National Park. We serve our neighbors (ranchers, miners, tradespeople, and retirees) and the many tourists who come here on their way to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks or to fish the Yellowstone, hike, bike, hunt, or just get away from overcrowded other places.
Big Timber is a stable, upbeat, and welcoming small town, an hour along I-90 to Bozeman (to the west) or Billings (to our east). Our schools are highly rated, with 41% of students in AP classes and a lot of community & parent support. Our housing prices are very reasonable. Our downtown has restaurants, a bakery, coffee shops, galleries, boutiques, banks, churches, and a good gym. We get move-ins from Bozeman and Billings, and from all over the US. Easily half of all licensed professionals applying to Pioneer are from outside Montana. Big Timber is a very friendly place an hour's drive from city life.

Like most rural hospitals our pay and benefits are competitive with those of the larger hospitals, but our recruiting and relocation bonuses are higher than what you’ll likely see in larger metros.
