Clinical Coordinator

Pioneer Medical Center is a 25-bed critical access hospital, essentially the county hospital for Sweet Grass County, Montana: Population 3700. We are in a beautiful valley along the Yellowstone River, between three mountain ranges, just north of Yellowstone National Park. We serve our neighbors (ranchers, skilled trades people and active retirees) and the many tourists who come here on their way to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, or to fish the Yellowstone, hike, bike, hunt or just get away from overcrowded places. Big Timber is a vibrant and welcoming small town, an hour from Bozeman and Billings. Our schools are highly rated, with high community support.

PURPOSE/DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Clinical Coordinator works closely with the Director of Nursing (DON) to provide leadership within the Critical Access Hospital (CAH) and is responsible for assisting with smooth day-to-day operations and the optimal patient experience throughout these departments. This position has responsibility and accountability to assist with oversight of daily departmental clinical operations; patient advocacy/safety and satisfaction, regulatory compliance, core measures, competencies and staff scheduling.

1.

Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.

2.

Provides leadership and motivation in CAH to colleagues, optimizes workflows and satisfaction for patients and nursing staff.

3.

Supports the Director of Nursing with clinical expertise and advice by providing input into the maintenance and development of guidelines, procedures, and policies.

4.

Works with the Director of Nursing to facilitate orientation and trainings, and other education opportunities to assure best practices are being utilized. Plans for and anticipates changes and subsequent adaptations.

5.

Develops proficient working knowledge of Cerner and assist in training staff assuring consistency, compliance, and evolution of documentation workflows within the EHR (Cerner) in collaboration with the DON and Quality RN, as needed.

6.

Maintains and displays an appropriate degree of clinical expertise. Acts as a resource for nursing staff, providers, other medical staff, patients, and families.

7.

Bases decisions and actions on ethical principles and fosters a non-discriminatory, positive climate.

8.

Performs other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department and organization.

9.

Coordinate scheduling and staffing to ensure sufficient coverage. Works closely with the DON in projecting staffing needs. Assists with time off requests and posting schedules. Assists with filling unexpected openings in the schedule.

10.

Assists DON with Human Resource activities such as interviewing and evaluating new staff.

11.

Performs chart audits and reviews for Quality purposes as needed/determined based on census.

12.

Responsible for overseeing Interdisciplinary Department Teams (IDT) meetings for the CAH patients/team members and directing evidence-based practice plans of care.

13.

Assist with patient rounding.

14.

Assist with patient care as needed.

15.

Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency safety standards as it relates to the environment, employee and patient/resident safety.

16.

Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development.

17.

Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
